I came up with an idea for a fun inexpensive contest, it’s name is Weekend Warrior

came up with is because I realize a few on this board still work and most everyone plays on Saturday and Sunday

rules are very simple
$50 buy in
contest starts Saturday 9/11 and ends on Sunday 10/31
thats 8 weekends, we play races that are run only on Saturday and Sunday

Tracks in the contest:
any thoroughbred track in the United States and Canada

types of wagers allowed:
win-place-show
exactas
daily doubles

bet 4 races per contest day
daily bankroll is $400 per contest day
$100 maximum bet allowed per race
$40 of you $100 per race MUST be used for either a W/P/S bet & $60 on exotics
this way no one can break open the event with a $100 exacta or DD

you tally up your daily scores and I’ll double check everyone’s “work”
contestant with highest bankroll wins

it’s a different format than Jack1999’s but I think will be fair to everyone
I am open to everyone’s suggestions or ideas, nothing is etched in stone

Good idea BHP. I will probably lay low as I am a bit burnt right now. But one question. Are you running any Caps? so one play does not blow up the board?

Jack1999 I’m a non believer in a capped game, but if a majority of the players would like one then I’d say sure to a cap

OK BHP sounds good. Yeah I am used to caps from playing Horse tourneys and Derby Wars. Our cap in the summer game never came into play. Would say I lean on the same $200 cap come this Winter.

I love the idea.

Two objections:

I definitely don't want to play in a contest with capped outcomes. The challenge of horserace betting is to maximize your outcome with a finite bankroll. Picking longshots and getting them to "pay" is a significant part of the art of the game.

I also don't like the idea of a four race bet maximum. I'm a fluid handicapper. I don't often play pick 3s or 4s or 5s or 6s because I don't like advance handicapping. I like to handicap the race, then look at the odds to figure how to maximize my bet. NOT the other way around. So I can and will pass races but I can't define value until I see the board after determining the approximate odds of each contestant in my head beforehand. So I would prefer to not cap the number of races bet. If you are doing that to cut down on tracking on your part I can understand that. How about if we were to select a track for the day and stick only to that track. Would that be a good compromise?

Lastly I'm a huge NFL fan. I do straight up ATS handicapping and also participate in a venerable, very competitive fantasy football league. I also have hosted the guys each and every Patriot Sunday since 2001. So Sundays in the fall and early winter are often pretty jammed for me. I'll bet that others won't be able to make it here to handicap EVERY Sat and Sunday either for whatever reason. Maybe you solve this issue by using a total bankroll amount rather than a limited $400.00 per day.

But if you can live with what I outlined AND can get at least five participants I'll give it a shot. I don't want to be in a contest with very limited participation by others.

Thanks.

PS If you guys want to play your Derby Wars style I'll simply abstain. No hard feelings.

Yeah I understand your position Michel on Caps. And yeah when playing pari mtuel agianst the pools is one thing. In a contest with others where one 75/1 horse can blow up the game is a horse of a different color IMO.

?

Only saturday's ( 8 in total)
$1000.00 a day bankroll
Min $ 33.00 a race
Max $250.00 a race
Every bet is counted downward ,from the original $1000.00 . ( min 4 races , max 30.00 races ) So it gives the disciplined , the fluid, the action and the conservative player all something to shoot for . Also plays into specific strengths of the individual player.
Once you go through the $1000.00 for the day -- can't bet anymore
All players involved will come to an agreement on reasonable caps ( re- win/palce , exactors , tris !!)
Best ROI wins contest

One more thing on Caps Michel. How would you feel in you grinded out a $500 to $1000 lead on someone and they played say $50 to win on a 50/1 shot last horse or two. and they beat you? When playing against others you need parameters to filter out the luck involved. If you make it a fair Cap you can still shoot for shots and get "Paid" so to speak. But no Caps and you risk blowing up the game either early or someone getting lucky late. Just my 2 cents.

I’m for these rules and even if it’s just you and me heads up I’ll play it with you starting on Saturday

I get why the capped idea is important and I know HRT has them in place as does NHC events and HPWS
none of us active on this board go “fishing” for that 99/1 shot
thats Why I’m fine with no cap

but if you and I are down late say $300 you have no choice but to go fishing late. IMO. The Cap helps even out the luck factor plus if someone hits a 50/1 early(Max Play) could destroy the game for the most part.

Would like to see you BHP go against YES in a heads up duel. But I think Yes was just proposing some rules as he is a busy man. But maybe he is looking to play. see what he says.

and just so you know BHP How I came up with a w/p inclusive Cap of $200. Derby Wars cap is $32 for win and $18 for place on a $2 wager. so considering we can wager 4X that amount it would = $200.

Jack1999

I’m up for a heads up match vs anyone and I’m also up for a full field contest
any rules I’m fine with, reason why you still need to find winners
if they’re 3/5 or 35/1 you still gotta find ‘em
